Tea, The New Fountain of Youth

Until recently, there was a popular myth about tea that categorized it as a dehydrating substance.  The King’s College study shows that it not only hydrates, but also helps prevent heart disease and cancer, because of the flavonoids (plant substances that are beneficial in cancer prevention) and polyphenols (antioxidants) it contains.

The color of tea is not important.  “All types of tea—black, oolong, green, white—come from the same plant, “Camellia Sinensis,” which grows in the jungle under specific conditions: heavy rain, fertile soil, and high altitude," explained Mark Ukra  (also known as “Dr. Tea”), author of "The Tea Diet.”

However, some experts emphasize the benefits of green tea.  Such is the case of Dr.  Stephen Hsu, biologist from the Medical College of Georgia Department of Oral Biology, who discovered that green tea contains a large amount of a polyphenol called EGCG. This polyphenol helps eliminate cancer cells and free radicals that can cause cancer by altering DNA.  Moreover, according to Hsu, EGCG reactivates the skin cells that are dying.  "Once skin cells reach the surface, their metabolism becomes slower and they get ready to die.  This process takes about a month, until they’re replaced by other cells.  However, when old cells are exposed to EGCG, they become reactivated and therefore produce more DNA and energy,” explained Dr. Stephen Hsu in an article published at www.biopsychiatry.com.

Start your day with a cup of tea
Tea is the second most consumed beverage worldwide after water.  However, in the United States, it occupies the sixth place.  According to Dr. Mark Ukra, it won’t last long in this position:  "We believe the benefits of tea and herbs can make the world a better, healthier, and happier place.  In fact, tea has remained an important beverage through history."

"If we replace 6-8 glasses of water for the same amount of tea, we’ll hydrate both the body and skin.  A healthy-looking skin makes us look better and younger,” stated “Dr.  Tea” along with the following suggestions:

  • To get the best flavor from tea, prepare it immediately after water begins to boil. Then, serve hot or cold.
  • For hot tea, leave the tea bag in the cup 3 to 5 minutes.
