It’s a fact. Children love to have sweets in their lunch box.  At the same time, you worry about providing them something healthy. Here are some ideas to please both of you: sweet, healthy snacks they’ll love, without placing their health at risk.

  • Prepare a tasty combination of fresh fruit: strawberries, melon, blueberries, and bananas. Cover them with a homemade sauce made with evaporated skim milk, cinnamon and artificial sweetener.
  • A peanut butter sandwich, using whole wheat bread and some sliced bananas.
  • Homemade oatmeal cookies; let your children help you make them.
  • Low-fat yogurt with granola and fresh fruit. Pack each ingredient separately so your kids can combine them as they prefer.
  • Make them a healthy smoothie with low fat milk, fruit and honey.
  • Sliced apples with peanut butter for dipping.

  • Take your children to the supermarket and let them choose the kind of fruit they like.
  • Keep in mind that children like to be involved in selecting their snacks; let them help you.
  • Vary what you put in their lunch box every day. Your children will get bored if they have to eat the same meal and snacks all the time.
  • Plan your children’s lunch box ahead of time (one night before or maybe over the weekend). For example, you can store some sliced fruit, homemade snack packs or oatmeal cookies.
  • Always remember that children prefer simple preparations.

Now start making these new, refreshing ideas part of your children’s lunch and snacks. They will be happy, and so will you!
