Every body function is controlled from the brain, which is why you should appreciate it for what it is: a unique part of your body.

There are some foods that can help you maintain a very healthy brain. Eating these foods can improve memory and even prevent Alzheimer's disease.

The common belief that eating fish makes a person more intelligent might have some truth to it, according to recent studies. One of the studies carried out at the University of New Zealand suggests that eating fish, and especially the omega-3 fatty acids found in many species, could improve cognitive performance.

In Norway, a study of 2000 adults showed that those who consumed more than 10 grams (.35 ounces) of fish a day had better scores on cognitive evaluation tests administered throughout a 1-year period. Those who consumed less fish had a poorer intellectual performance.

Research in Holland on the diets of 400 adults between the ages of 50 and 70 found that a greater plasma concentration of omega-3 fatty acids resulted in fewer failed cognitive tests over a 3-year period.

These studies, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, put fish such as tuna, salmon and albacore at the top of the list of foods that help keep your brain young and agile.

The following is a list of other products that will keep your brain young:

Avocados. They provide monounsaturated fats, excellent for controlling and maintaining good blood circulation which is essential for our brain.
